Le mani che chiedono elemosina mi hanno colpito piu' di tutte: raccontano una storia dura, essenziale, che passa spesso sotto gli occhi senza essere vista. Fotografarle è stato un modo per avvicinarmi alle persone senza invadere, solo ascoltando quello che le loro mani avevano da dire. Tutte, a modo loro, mi hanno lasciato qualcosa.
Hands have always fascinated me, maybe because they tell more than we think. Hands that create, play, write ... The hands that beg for alms have struck me most of all: they tell a hard, essential story, which often passes under the eyes without being seen. Photographing them was a way to get closer to people without invading, just listening to what their hands had to say. They all, in their own way, left me something.
